The IoT is coming upcon us faster than we think. IoT was given birth in the late 10´s, when the threshold of connecting more objects than people to the internet With its arrival EU industry, homes and society will be catapulted into the huge arena of security risks that accompany an untested yet already universal technology that directly manages our cyber-physical reality on a daily, and indeed second by second, basis. Attacks on the content and quality of service of the IoT platforms can have economic, energetic and physical security consequences that go way beyond the traditional Internet´s lack of security, and way beyond the threats posed by attacks to mobile telephony. Yet, these threats to the IoT, are also a great opportunity for those who will know how to harness security science and technology in order to counter the threats in a cost effective manner and market products that can support the development of a thriving business that assures the safety and and security of the IoT.
SerIoT will optimize the information security in IoT platforms and networks in a holistic, cross-layered manner (for example IoT platforms & devices, honeypots, SDN routers and operator´s controller) in order to offer a secure SerIoT platform that can be used to implement secure IoT platforms and networks anywhere and everywhere.

This will create a unique and portable software-based SerIoT network that can spearhead Europe´s success in the Internet of Things. These advances will be evaluated on both individual lab test-beds and a integrated EU wide test- beds interconnected through UEssex and demonstrated via significant use cases by industry partners.

SerIoT technology will be installed, deployed and validated in emerging IoT-enabled applications areas (for example, Smart Transportation, Surveillance and flexible manufacturing, industries 4.0 as core business areas) throughout its lifetime, enabling the conduction of pioneer I+D for the delivery of horizontal IoT end to end security platform in Europe.

SerIoT aims to provide a useful open & reference framework for real-time monitoring of the traffic exchanged through heterogeneous IoT platforms within the IoT network in order to recognize suspicious patterns, to evaluate them and finally to decide on the detection of a security leak, privacy threat and atypical event detection, while offering parallel mitigation actions that are seamlessly exploited in the background.

El IoT viene sobre nosotros más rápido de lo que pensamos. Nació a finales de los años 10, cuando se cruzó el umbral para conectar más objetos que personas en Internet. Con su llegada, la industria de la UE, los hogares y la sociedad se vieron catapultados a la enorme arena de los riesgos de seguridad que acompañan a  una tecnología aún no probada pero universal que gestiona directamente nuestra realidad ciberfísica diariamente, y de hecho, segundo a segundo. Los ataques al contenido y la calidad del servicio de las plataformas IoT pueden tener consecuencias económicas, energéticas y de seguridad física que van más allá de la falta de seguridad tradicional de internet, y mucho más allá de las amenazas planteadas por los ataques a la telefonía de Internet, y mucho más allá de las amenazas planteadas por los ataques a la telefonía móvil. Sin embargo, estas amenazas para el IoT, son también una gran oportunidad para aquellos que saben cómo aprovechar la ciencia y la tecnología de seguridad para contrarrestar las amenazas de una manera rentable y comercializar productos que puedan respaldar el desarrollo de un negocio próspero que garantice la seguridad del IoT.


SerIoT optimizará la seguridad de la información en las plataformas y redes IoT de una manera integral y cruzada (es decir, plataformas y dispositivos IoT, honeypots, enrutadores SDN y controladoras de operador) con el fin de ofrecer una plataforma SerIoT segura que pueda utilizarse para implementar IoT segura plataformas y redes en cualquier lugar y en todas partes.

El proyecto SerIoT creará una red SerIoT única y portátil basada en software que puede encabezar el éxito de Europa en Internet of Things. Estos avances se evaluarán tanto en bancos de pruebas de laboratorio individuales como en un banco de pruebas integrado de toda la UE interconectado a través de UEssex y demostrado a través de casos de uso significativos por socios de la industria.

La tecnología SerIoT se instalará, implementará y validará en áreas emergentes de aplicaciones habilitadas para IoT (por ejemplo, transporte inteligente, vigilancia, fabricación flexible, industria 4.0 como áreas principales de negocio) durante toda su vida útil permitiendo la conducción de pioneros I+D para la entrega de la plataforma de seguridad de extremo a extremo IoT horizontal en Europa.

SerIoT tiene como objetivo proporcionar un marco abierto y de referencia útil para el monitoreo en tiempo real intercambiado a través de plataformas IoT heterogéneas dentro de la red IoT para reconocer los patrones sospechosos, evaluarlos y finalmente decidir sobre la detección de una evasión de seguridad, privacidad detección de amenazas y eventos atípicos, a la vez que ofrece acciones de moderación paralelas que se explotan sin problemas en segundo plano.

HOP Ubiquitous Beacons from Aarhus

HOP Ubiquitous has created a new way of communicating: Smart Points of Interaction (Smart POIs)

These interaction systems invite users such as visitors and citizens in the City to actively participate and get involved in the city development. For this purpose, Beacons and Physical Web over Bluetooth Low Energy are being used as a new medium to interact, access to context-based content and collaborate through your Smart Phone.

This context-driven and opportunistic interaction between users and Smart POIs offer a unique opportunity to engage with citizens. As a difference with classical tourism Apps, installing anything in your phone is never required such as native Apps, you do not need to go through menu, submenus and multiple options to reach the information that you would like about the place that you have in front of you. Smart POIs are context-aware, your location is the driver and it not only provides the classical Wikipedia kind of content, as well an agile experience with tips, insights and the content that you need to enhance your experience.

HOP Ubiquitous Beacons from Aarhus

In details, Smart POIs are supported by the advanced beacons developed by HOP Ubiquitous called Smart Spots. These physical resources are the technology which permits interaction with any Smart phone and multiple physical places. Simply, Smart Spot sends a notification to your Smart Phone inviting you to participate (as a typical SMS or WhatsApp notification). This notification grants you access to the Web App which enables interaction with the multimedia content.

HOP Ubiquitous has used these Smart Spots as a project of citizen co-creation, generating a platform which allows for projects validation and opening a suggestion box in Aarhus, Denmark (visit for more details).

Additionally, Smart Spots have multiple applications, such as local trade impulse, promotion of touristic points and infotainment. Smart Spots are also equipped with environmental monitoring capabilities such as temperature, gases emission, humidity, noise, ground-borne vibration and even city luminosity. These devices make easy the management and maintenance of the different energy sources of the city, and this contributes to the sustainability and resource optimization.

Smart Spots are integrated into the surroundings through design enclosures built with natural materials which have strength and durability. They are designed by HOP Ubiquitous, the design is oriented to optimize their lifetime to the maximum in outdoor conditions, at the same time as they offer a compact size and organic design for its seamless integration with the city.
